Can anyone learn to kitesurf?
Yes, almost anyone. You do not need strong arms because the kite's pull goes through the harness at your hips. What matters more is basic fitness, enjoying the water and being happy to get wet a lot in the first days.
You should feel safe in deep water. You will wear a helmet and buoyancy vest in lessons anyway. For children and teenagers, starting depends mostly on body weight and focus. Ask us and we will work out together whether it fits.
How long does it take to learn kitesurfing?
Most beginners ride their first metres after 3 to 5 days of lessons. Riding upwind confidently and getting back to where you started usually takes a few more days of practice.
Three things make the difference: steady wind, a small group and plenty of space. That is exactly why Tarifa, with its steady Poniente and the wide beach of Los Lances, is so popular for learning.
How a kitesurf course works
- Theory and safety: wind window, spot knowledge, right of way and the kite's safety systems.
- Kite control on land: launching, flying and landing the kite safely.
- Body drag: getting pulled through the water without a board, including back to your board.
- Water start: standing up on the board and riding your first metres.
- Control: managing speed, holding a course and riding upwind.
With a radio helmet you hear your instructor on the water too, so you get corrections exactly when you need them.

How much does it cost to learn kitesurfing?
With us, semi-private lessons with a shared kite cost €110 per person per day (3 hours, €100 from day 4). With a kite each, best for advanced riders, it is €130 (€120 from day 4). Private lessons cost €150 (2 hours, €135 from day 4). Gear, radio and rescue are included.
- 4 days semi-private: €430 per person
- 3 days private: €450
- Kite camp with lessons and 6 nights: from €599 per person
You do not need your own gear at the start. Buying makes sense once you ride independently and know which style you like.
Semi-private or private lessons?
In semi-private lessons you learn in a pair with one instructor. You take turns, learn from each other's mistakes and get breaks to catch your breath. Ideal for couples and friends.
In private lessons the instructor is yours alone and you are flying the whole time. That is why they last 2 hours, and usually get you on the board fastest. They also suit advanced riders with a clear goal.
What comes after the course?
Once you ride your first metres, the real kiting begins. With Help 2 Kite you ride supervised in a group: we show you the spot and pick you up by boat in offshore wind. Rent gear from our rental and later find your own setup with Test & Buy.
For an extra €50 you can earn the VDWS licence, including theory and the Stepflat: we add every further level for life at no extra cost. It is internationally recognised and makes renting gear at other stations easier.
